Picture GalleryCampers participate in a variety of projects, some large and some small, together in multi-age cooperative groups. This week we built a tee-pee out of drift wood from the beach and built a clubhouse out of PVC pipe and cardboard. Our campers have to use problem-solving skills, as well as appropriate social communication, to help their group complete the project. Every camper plays a role in the project. Campers also participate in social-cognitive activities that encourage them to think about others and be flexible. Emotional awareness and regulation activities allow campers to label their emotions and rate them on a scale of 1-5. Campers understand that being a 1 or a 2 is a comfortable learning zone, and when they hit a 3, they should begin to find ways to calm themselves. All children appear to benefit from this type of self-awareness. |
